Host Vietnam beat Malaysia 1-0 in the final of the U-20 ASEAN Football Championship. The only goal of the match was scored by captain Duc Nhan in the sixth minute. In the semi-finals, tournament host, Vietnam beat Myanmar 3-1 while the stronger Thailand squad was unexpectedly defeated 1-2 by Malaysia. In that game all three goals were scored in the last minutes of the match.
