Sixteen-year-old Evans Thomas has been selected after an India-wide campaign to spend a week, 27 August-4 September, at Spanish Primera Liga club Barcelona. The Kerala boy will be one of eleven players from all over Asia — and the only one from India — to have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of training with the Catalan club coaches. Former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia made the selection after an on-field skills and technique test of a short-listed group of players, who had made it through to the finals based on one-minute videos displaying their football skills. Entries were open for 15-17 year olds. Apart from the week-long program, the select eleven will also get the enviable chance of playing against the Barcelona youth team and also watch FC Barcelona in action, Express India reported.
