Indian homeless to challenge world in Denmark

The Homeless World Cup was started in 2003 with the view of boosting the moral of the unprivileged. Starting 29 July eight India football player hailing mostly from Central India and Maharashtra, will take on 60 teams from various countries to fullfil their dreams of becoming world champions. A housemaid, a waiter and a newspaper hawker are among some of those picked to represent India in the tournament in Denmark. Practising hard in Nagpur, they're dreaming of not just winning the 'Golden Holed Sock', but also joining the ranks of participants who have gone on to find employment and housing; and even pursued higher education and de-addiction programs.

Other Asian teams in this edition of the tournament are Australia, Hong Kong, Afghanistan and Krgyzstan. Melbourne will host the 2008 event.
