PIA revives its football team for Pakistan 'top-slot'

Unlike many airlines that sponsor national football teams or clubs, Pakistan's national carrier, the state-owned Pakistan International Airlines, has decided to revive its football team and to re-enter the top-slot of domestic football. "We have decided to revitalise our team and we have appointed former international Tariq Lutfi as the manager, " said Lt Col Moin Rauf, PIA General Manager (Sports) on his return from the Asian Football Confederation congress in Kuala Lumpur. "People will see once again in action the most successful team in Pakistan football history, PIA, with nine titles, followed by Punjab (8 titles), Karachi (6 titles) and Pakistan WAPDA (five titles)," he told APP. The PIA team was disbanded in 2003.
