Attending a news conference after attending the opening of the 61st MIC general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi told media that he did not think Manchester United playing a game in Kuala Lumpur during the Asian Cup would affect the Asian Football Confederation's premier, four-yearly tournament. "The Asian Cup series in Malaysia will have ended by that time and will not affect the match. I hope they understand that this is what the government wants," he said.
Asked about the sudden cancellation of the Archbishop of Canterbury's conference on Muslim-Christian dialogue.that was supposed to take place in Malaysia, the Prime Minister said the event was postponed because of his busy schedule. "I have an important role to play in the conference so I didn’t want it to be held when I was not around. So we will have to find some other date for the conference," he explained.
