Nike talks to Tiger Beer, FAS about Singapore shirt

Singapore's The New Paper has exclusively reported that sportswear company Nike is in talks with the Football Association of Singapore to take over the manufacturing and design of the Lions' new national shirts from Tiger Beer, the FAS's main sponsor. The reigning ASEAN football champions, about to defend its title in the ASEAN Football Federation Championship, could well sport a new Nike state-of-the-art kit in time for the first match.

"We followed closely the campaign that The New Paper started a few months back to raise interest and awareness of the state of the national jersey and we are happy to confirm that we are in talks with FAS to negotiate a deal. We hope to close the deal soon, just before the Lions play in the AFF Cup. That would mean maximum exposure for the new national kit. Unfortunately, all other commercial and design details in the negotiations can only be revealed, if the deal is sealed by then, and when there's an official announcement. For now, we will actively work out all the details in the coming week or so, " a Nike spokesman confirmed to the newspaper's Ernest Luis.

After being pressed for confirmation of the potential partnership, FAS and Tiger Beer gave The New Paper a joint statement which read: "Nike has expressed its interest and we are currently in discussions. All details will be announced when finalised."
