China, Australia join HK U-23 Lunar New Year Cup

The U-23 Olympic teams of China, Australia, Jamaica and a Hong Kong selection team will participate in the Lunar New Year Cup 2007. While Australia and Jamaica are preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games, China, which has automatic entry as hosts, is currently training in Europe. The competition will be played on the first and fourth day of the Lunar New Year holidays (18 and 21 February) at the Hong Kong Stadium on a knockout basis. The schedule includes two matches on the first day of the Lunar New Year (18 February) and the playoff for third/fourth place and the Final on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year (21 February).

Australia, which reached the last eight of the Athens Olympics in 2004, will stay in Hong Kong from 8-13 February before playing Chinese Taipei in the away leg of the preliminary Olympic qualifiers on 14 February. The first leg takes place on 7 February. The winner of this match will take their place in the main round of qualifying in Group D with Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan/Kyrgyzstan, AFCMedia reported.
