AFC cautions: long road ahead for Indian football

Asian Football Confederation president Mohamed bin Hammam, said efforts to develop the game in India was encouraging but the results were still far from satisfactory. Speaking at a news conference, he stressed the need for sustained effort at all levels. "I do not want to paint a rosy picture. A lot of work has been done at the administrative level, but we are still far from satisfied with the results," he said as quoted by The Hindu.

Relating to the prospect of Vision Asia as a development tool, he said it was the first step in a long journey. "The first Vision Asia project was launched two years ago in China. We recently launched the State league in Manipur under the Vision India project. It is just the beginning and the road ahead is long," he said adding that any project of this nature would need 10 to 15 years to mature.
