Jalan Besar Stadium gets new artificial turf

Nine months and US$625,000 later, Singapore's Jalan Besar Stadium has finally got a new artificial turf. The resurfaced pitch is part of FIFA's GOAL project to develop football. Present at the inauguration were some 350 people, including several football VIPs and the national team.

Channel News Asia reported that the new surface requires less maintenance and can be used more intensively. It will also alleviate the perennial problems of field shortage in Singapore. The third generation turf is 90 percent close to natural grass and FIFA has approved it for use in World Cup qualifying round matches.
