Defending champions Vientiane FC will meet second-placed MCTPC FC in the first match of the new Laos League season at the National Stadium on 1 October 2005. Last season's third-placed team National Public Security FC will take on Lao-American College FC, who stood fourth in the league table last season, on the same day. The matches of Army versus Bank FC and Laos Journalists’ Association versus National University will be played the following day.
According to AFCMedia, Laos Football Federation vice-president Phouvane Vongsouthi dismissed the talk of delaying the league saying, “This year’s season will not be delayed. If we delay the start, it could lead to many problems as the season has to continue through the rainy season. Any delay to the start of the tournament could mean that the season will not end on schedule." The competition will have breaks during the November SEA Games in Manila and the National Games in December.
